Imami Gold Coin (New Design)

The Imami gold coin, also known as the new design coin, is an official Iranian gold coin minted by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1991. It replaced the older Bahar Azadi coins and has become a popular investment option in Iran's gold market due to its updated design and high demand.

Design

One side of the coin features a portrait of Imam Khomeini. Coins minted between 1991 and 2007 display the minting year beneath the portrait. Since 2007, due to Central Bank policy, all coins bear the 2007 date regardless of the actual minting year.

The reverse side depicts the Imam Reza shrine, with the inscription "Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran" above and "Bahar Azadi" (Spring of Freedom) below.

Difference from Old Design Bahar Azadi Coin

The old design Bahar Azadi coins were minted between 1979 and 1991 and feature a different design. One side displays an artistic rendering of the name Ali and the phrase "Bank Melli Iran," while the other side shows the Imam Reza shrine with the inscription "First Bahar Azadi." Although they share the same weight and purity, their lower demand often results in a lower market price.
